Metaverse & XR Experience (Environment)

This project is very dear to me, as it was created for International Language Day to provide an opportunity for Bangladeshi expatriates to celebrate their language and culture, even while abroad. Our goal was to bring people together in a virtual space to have fun and connect. During my time at my last company, I worked on several projects, most of which were built in Unity. As the creative director, I coordinated all of these projects. This particular project took me one and a half months to complete.

One of the biggest challenges I faced in this project was optimizing it for WebGL Build. There are limitations inside Unity for WebGL builds, as we could only render 60k polygons at a time. We settled on an environment with 33k polygons and created very lightweight character models to prevent lag. We designed all main characters within 5k polygons and 1500 for NPCs. Our primary target audience was one million people. Visitors could customize their own character and collect flowers from the flower shop as a tribute by logging in with their Facebook ID or as a guest user and sharing a selfie on their Facebook profile. To better control the player traffic on the webserver, we used the Proton Multiplayer Engine on Unity.
